AKASA was founded by Ashleigh Parsons. Veda Romeo, a DACArecipient (& true warrior) is her director. It supports and stands forother immigrants within the local South LA community, especially in the fieldof WELLNESS and NUTRITION. Very LP 153. Very sustainable. And truly a legacyfor these kids and this school. AKASA is a needs-basedcommunity based program, which targets students ages 5 to 18. AKASA provides a framework in which students, families and theircommunities can thrive through a holistic lifestyle.
AKASA is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit that provides adiversified wellness curriculum in partnership with public schools inlow-income communities throughout Los Angeles. Students and families learnabout the process of growing, harvesting, sourcing and cooking food and examinetheir own neighborhood food system to make informed choices about their overallhealth + wellness.
AKASA reaches 200 students on a weekly basiseach year. Additionally, AKASA provides monthly parent workshops, which average25-30 parents who are eager to learn about healthy and simple recipes that caneasily be replicated at home.
