How to Turn a Setback into a Gift

Roger Morgan

Life is riddled with rejection. Whether it’s being told no when asking for something you really want or being laid off from a job you really enjoyed, it’s extremely important that you do not take the rejection personally!

Rejection is a part of life. It’s even a commonality to people who are talented in the most extraordinary ways. Take in Chris Lee’s friend’s story (video below) as example of how it can happen to someone who has devoted a large amount of time in order to create a specific result in her life:

When something doesn’t go as planned or if you’re having an off day, emotions can run rampant. You may ask yourself questions such as:

  • Is this really what I’m supposed to be doing?

  • Should I throw in the towel?

  • Am I skilled enough to make this work?

All of these questions originate from focusing on the “failure” and all the reasons why it didn’t work. But what if that “failure” was actually a stepping stone to present a much bigger opportunity to you?

Any hiccup or setback you experience does NOT need to define your entire life. Oftentimes people will base their value off of past experiences rather than focusing on the value they can create in the future. You are NOT your setbacks!

When you come to grips with this perspective, now you can focus on building a mindset geared towards positivity and optimism. This mindset will support you in seeing opportunities through any obstacle. It will support you in living your life with unshakable confidence such that any “negative” event doesn’t stand a chance in derailing you otherwise. The question is, where do you even begin to create a mindset like this?

The first step is doing the inner work of re-discovering who you actually are. Without insight, life is filled with many moments that can break down your confidence, self-worth, patience, and certainty. In this re-discovery, you’ll get clarity on the person you truly want to become.

The next step is applying the inner work! In order to create a different result in this 3 dimensional world, action is required. Action is the catalyst for change. It is the bridge between who you are now and who you want to be in the future.

Over time you will find that consistently taking action will re-define how you view yourself as a human being. Whether it’s 6 months or 5 years, you’ll gain momentum and create a new life in the process.

Consistent practice and a supportive circle are key in creating the changes you want to see. Our Legacy Program is a training ground filled with insight and accountability so that you can make your dream into a reality. Though it’s not the first step in our process, it creates a massive impact for our students.
